Best Preserved Ruins - Paestum, then Matera, Italy

Paestum is breathtaking. Being close to the Temples you can easily imagine the lifestyle and costumes of the times. Very inspiring. This city of ruins is 2500 years old. The best preserved, as you can see by this Temple. Walking through every part of this city lets your imagination go along with it. The Museum, completed in 1979, is fascinating and beautifully done.

We took a few days and had a wonderful, awesome experience. The cave houses in Matera in the southern part of the boot of Italy, are a special part of history. People lived in those little caves until 1952 when they were moved into new apartments. Absolutely amazing lifestyle and generations have survived that for 7000 years.

Historic Spots- Our Town

It's a little cold here today. Wanted to get out and about so took a little ride to some of our 'out of the way' spots. Always liked this little arch with the tiny chapel attached. This is a little road that goes behind the mountain and sometimes used as a shortcut around Gaeta, to get to the main road to Rome.

And look closely at the fence........ see the cow? Yep, he has come right to our gate to have a few fresh munchies. This cow seems to like what he's found. He's been coming every evening for the past few weeks. You can always hear his 'campanaccia' (cow bell) so we know where he is......... even in the dark. He and his buddies usually stay up on the hill.

More soon.......
